Jesus’ Healing Benefits

A Note from Evangeline: My desire for this blog is to fill you up with HOPE! One way of doing that is by sharing true-life testimonies of what Jesus has done in others. Revelation 19:10 says, “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” When we hear about what Jesus has done in the lives of others, we are actually being prophesied to. Just like the Word of God is a mirror showing who we really are in Christ, so testimonies show us what God is able to do in our lives. May you be encouraged as you read this testimony! What Jesus has done for Grandma Betty, He is able to do for you!

In the early weeks of COVID-19 and the worldwide lock-down that accompanied it, I (a widow of eleven years) began experiencing some unusual signs and symptoms that prompted me to notify my family physician. Following several tests, including a biopsy by the gynecologist, I was informed over the phone that the results detected malignancy. With what would otherwise be considered devastating news, I felt upheld by Jesus while His peace overflowed my whole being.

As a young child, I trusted in Jesus as my Savior and kept in the Word of God. One of the first verses I learned was, “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in you” (Psalm 56:3). It was that Bible verse (which I had hidden in my heart so long ago) that came to me and strengthened me as I listened to the gynecologist’s report.

I was referred to an oncologist and my son graciously made himself available to drive me out of town to a specialized hospital for the appointment. While he waited in the car, he was also invited to listen to the oncologist (via speaker phone) as he shared with me my options. A hysterectomy was booked.

Bible verses continued to sustain me while I prayed for healing as I awaited the procedure. A few years earlier, I had volunteered at a Healing Room and had learned many verses to encourage and pray for others. It was amazing how God had prepared me to be strong through His Word.

Thankfully, the operation and recovery went really well. At the follow-up appointment a few weeks later, though, the oncologist explained that they were unable to contain the cancer and suggested I be treated with chemotherapy and radiation. To his surprise, I declined. Years before, my husband had his own journey with cancer and I had seen him suffer so much from the treatments.

The doctor tried to convince me otherwise as he believed I was making a mistake. Wanting to change my mind, he asked my son (who was listening in from the car) what he thought. I was so thankful to hear his reply, “I respect my Mom’s decision.”

The oncologist made the prognosis that I had only months to live. I chose to believe otherwise. In the days ahead I set my heart on Jesus’ healing benefits:

Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; So that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 103:2-5

In active faith, I continued on with life as normal. I kept walking daily, eating healthy and speaking words of Life over my whole being.

Six months after my last visit with the oncologist, he informed me following a CT scan, that the tumor was “aggressive but not galloping”. After realizing that I still wouldn’t give into treatment, he decided to refer me back to my family physician.

As I sat with my doctor in the examining room two months later, he, so full of compassion, spent half an hour encouraging me to set all my affairs in place. This included hospice and funeral plans. I didn’t ask for a definite timeline because I was believing Jesus for complete healing and life.

Within a few weeks, when things had opened up again (to at least a certain extent), I went before the church elders according to the Word of God. They prayed for and anointed me with oil. I have never looked back since. Praise Jesus! I am healed!

My journey has turned out to be a positive one. Almost two years later, I continue to walk in fullness of health while still declaring healing scriptures. God’s promises are the strength of my life. His Word is my daily medicine.
